POSITION TITLE: Chief Communications Officer
The Chief Communication Officer develops and supervises effective two way communication channels with the public and performs as the communications liaison for the District, Board of Education, and Superintendent. The Chief Communications Officer provides leadership and supervision of the Communication Department. The Chief Communications Officer coordinates and supervises all district internal and external communications including print and electronic communications, websites, news and social media.
REPORTS TO: Superintendent
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:
- Plans, develops, supervises, and evaluates comprehensive, district-wide communications and community engagement programs.
- Coordinates and approves the timely release of information within the District and to the general public.
- Provides support in the management and direction of crises and related communications as needed.
- Supervises the Community Relations Specialist.
- Manages and approves community-facing survey and feedback collection efforts.
- Serves as public relations representative for the District and liaison to media and community agencies.
- Schedules and coordinates media production, printing and publishing.
- Coordinates and develops the District’s social media and world wide web presence including maintaining and updating District websites on a daily basis.
- Manages the positive image of the District by telling the story of the District through social media and other avenues.
- Monitors and manages legal and legislative issues impacting the District.
- Facilitates the Legislative Advisory Committee consisting of parents, staff, and Board of Education members.
- Facilitates monthly Zoom meetings for the St. Louis School Board’s PLC Legislative Advocacy meetings.
- Organizes and directs parents, staff, and volunteer committees.
- Coordinates with the Clayton Education Foundation and CHS Alumni Association activities and staff.
- Plans and coordinates special events, projects and activities.
- Develops and implements communication strategies that ensure all stakeholders feel represented and valued.
- Monitors and evaluates communication strategies to ensure alignment with the District’s Strategic Plan.
- Performs other duties as requested by the Superintendent.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
When a specific assignment has additional or different Essential Function requirements, the differences will be discussed at the time of assignment.
- (Attendance) - Administrative and supervisory duties require daily attendance.
- (Mobility) - Requires independent travel to work sites inside and outside the District.
- (Reading) - Reviews and interprets printed reports to obtain information necessary for decision-making, planning and management in assigned area(s); reads published articles, documents, news releases, etc. for information to use and/or pass on to others.
- (Dexterity) - Operates computer software applications; operates specialized equipment such as video recording equipment, cameras, sound equipment, and etc.
- (Writing) - Prepares and maintains written reports; develops information for written reports and correspondence to officials inside and outside the District.
- (Communicating) - Discusses programs with employees, administrators, and/or citizens; conducts individual or group meetings; provides oversight supervision and evaluation of assigned staff; communicates with employees, citizens, etc. on behalf of the District; provides District representation to groups inside and outside the district.
- (Sight) - Observes and evaluates employee performance; reviews published materials for selection purposes; visually obtains information from computer monitor; edits written documents for spelling, grammar, accuracy, and sentence construction.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:
Education Preparation: (Formal and Informal)
Preferred Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in education, journalism, mass communications, public relations,or related field.
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT:
Twelve month administrative position. Employment terms are specified by the Board of Education.
