Description

 POSITION TITLE: Principal

 

The principal is responsible for overseeing all aspects of instruction, curriculum, staff development, supervision and evaluation, student discipline, administration, public relations, and building maintenance.

 

REPORTS TO: Superintendent

 

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

 

  1. Coordinates the implementation of District curriculum through instructional leadership by monitoring and providing feedback to teachers and staff. 
  2. Promotes and leads an environment with a Diversity, Equity, Inclusion lens to meet the needs of diverse populations within the school community.
  3. Develops a School Improvement Plan that is aligned with the District goals and is evidence based. 
  4. Develops and coordinates a system for maintaining appropriate student conduct throughout the building to provide an orderly environment conducive to learning.
  5. Designs, initiates, and evaluates student activities consistent with the educational goals of the school district and the school population served.
  6. Prepares and submits the school’s budgetary requests and monitors expenditures ensuring accountability of funds.
  7. Assumes responsibility for the communication, implementation, and observance of all Board of Education policies and administrative procedures by the school’s staff and students.
  8. Participates in the supervision and improvement of the physical facilities in order to provide an environment conducive to learning.
  9. Participates in the selection and recommendation of the certified and classified staff to contribute to the selection of the best qualified candidates.
  10. Supervises the maintenance of accurate records on student progress and attendance for educational monitoring, district reporting, and legal requirements.
  11. Promotes effective communication between the school and the community to create a positive environment of support, understanding, and participation in school activities.
  12. Plans and supervises emergency procedures to ensure the well being of students and faculty.
  13. Appraises, evaluates, and counsels the school’s certified and classified staff to translate the school’s educational philosophy, goals, and objectives into action terms that directly benefit the student.
  14. Remains professionally current by attending professional meetings, reading professional journals, and by sharing problems of mutual interest with others in the field.
  15. Works with central office administrative personnel providing curriculum, personnel, financial, food service, maintenance, technology, and security services to promote integrated operations within the District.
  16. Prepares such reports as may be required to keep the Superintendent and other central office personnel informed of all the school’s activities and programs.
  17. Participates in personal and professional growth activities designed to keep abreast of the latest techniques and strategies in teaching, administration, and curriculum design.
  18. Performs other duties and responsibilities as requested by the Superintendent.
  19. Fosters partnerships with families and community stakeholders through collaboration and promoting family involvement in school initiatives.
  20. Engages in data-driven decision making by analyzing academic performance, behavioral trends, attendance, and other metrics to guide decision and continuous school improvement.
  21. Promotes social-emotional development and well-being through leadership of programs and practices for emotional resilience and behavioral wellness.
  22. Oversees building level student services coordination including interventions, accommodations, and individualized supports.



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

  1. (Attendance) - Daily attendance is required to provide continuity of the educational program.
  2. (Mobility) - Requires independent travel to work sites within a building.
  3. (Reading) - Interprets test results; reviews and interprets printed reports to obtain information necessary for decision making, planning and management in assigned area(s); reads published articles, documents, news releases, etc. for information to use and/or pass on to others.
  4. (Dexterity) - Demonstrates procedures and equipment to teachers, administrators, parents, and others.
  5. (Writing) - Prepares and maintains written reports; provides written procedures for plan preparation and implementation; communicates student assignments and behavior problems with others in writing.
  6. (Communicating) -Provides instruction to district employees; discusses education programs with teachers, administrators, and/or citizens; conducts individual or group meetings; provides oversight supervision and evaluation of assigned staff; communicates with employees, citizens, suppliers, etc. via telephone; provides district representation to groups inside and outside the district; assists with the supervision of students; discusses student assignments and behavior problems with others.
  7. (Sight) - Observes and evaluates employee performance; selects educational and/or library materials for students, staff and parents; observes and evaluates student performance.

 

Physical Demands (Strength)

 

  • Exerts up to 20 pounds of force, and/or

  • Exerts up to a negligible amount of force constantly.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:

 

(Experience)- Vocational Preparation:

Requires a minimum of 5 years teaching and 3 years administrative, leadership, or other supervisory experience.

 

(Experience)- Education Preparation: (Formal and Informal)

Requires a Master’s degree, Missouri teacher certification, and Missouri principal certification.

TERM of EMPLOYMENT:

 

Twelve month administrative position.  Employment terms are specified by the Board of Education.

 

FLSA Status:

 

Exempt

Primary duty is the performance of office or non-manual work directly related to the management or general business operation of the District.

Primary duty includes the exercise of discretion and independent judgment with respect of matter of significance.
